As a project dedicated to reimagining the narratives of Haiti and its arts, active user engagement is vital. We are at a dynamic moment in the study of Haitian art, as new scholarship broadens and complicates understandings that were once shaped by narrow tropes and established canons. Our 2025 maps, drawing on data from our original 2019 research, identify institutions and museums that hold Haitian art in their permanent collections. Sites marked with a “#” reflect institutions that could not provide a final count before publication; their information will be updated once they complete their collection audits.
The first visual tool is an interactive map that allows users to navigate and access details such as an institution’s name, location, and the approximate number of works it holds. The maps that follow offer a broader view of Haitian art’s global presence. The first snapshot (marked in red) highlights the locations of Haitian artworks throughout the Diaspora. The second snapshot (marked in blue) shows all institutions that have partnered with HADC and will feature their collections on this platform. We aim to continue expanding these maps and to imagine new ways of charting the global influence of Haitian art.
