The Digital Lakou Sandbox

Greetings from the Haitian Arts Digital Crossroads! You are invited to participate in the Digital Lakou Sandbox – a collaborative digital workspace on Haitian art.  Through the NEH Humanities Collections and Reference Resources (HCRR) implementation grant and by working with the WCA and other partnering institutions, we aim to build a multi-institutional database of Haitian art. Through this work and this database, we intend to create a digital lakou (communal space), a Haitian Kreyol term used to describe a shared public space within a village or amongst homes. Our HADC Lakou aims to make available visual art and a space for the virtual collective to use for advice and inter-institutional collaboration.

By joining our Digital Lakou, you will be teamed up with other stakeholders to create a digital focus group that will receive a series of images to HADC has created an online process where we will collect your notes and host interdisciplinary discussions and analyses with your focus group to discuss your assigned set. The focus group requires a one-month commitment to complete a set of tasks.  In the first phase, each participant is assigned a collection of images to add and edit the descriptions and provide descriptive verbiage for meta-tagging. The HADC team will collect and summarize participants’ feedback. At the end of the 30 days, we will schedule a virtual meeting with the focus group to discuss their findings. Our virtual community consists of a network of regional, national, and international partners. If you are interested in participating, we ask that you click the link below to sign up and review the “HADC Participants Terms and Agreement Guidelines”.

We look forward to your participation and your ongoing partnership with the HADC project.  If you have any questions or concerns regarding logistics, please do not hesitate to contact us.
