“Haiti in the Heartland” Exhibition

Now on view at the Little Haiti Cultural Center in Miami, Florida, Haiti in the Heartland is a public art installation featuring selected works from the Waterloo Center for the Arts’ Haitian Art Collection. In the heart of the Midwest, Iowa is home to a remarkable gathering of vibrant voices, bold visions, and powerful works of art from Haiti. The collection began in 1977 as a gift from Dr. and Mrs. F. Harold Rueling and has since grown to more than 2,000 artworks. As stewards of this collection, the Waterloo Center for the Arts is dedicated to uplifting Haiti’s culture, heritage, and creative spirit through partnerships across the United States and around the world.

The exhibition was developed through a collaboration between HADC, the Waterloo Center for the Arts, and the Haitian Arts Cultural Alliance to create an outdoor installation for the exterior gallery of Miami’s Little Haiti Cultural Center, representing the strong Midwest presence of the WCA Haitian art collection. Haiti in the Heartland was featured as part of the 2024 Miami Art Basel.
